Our client, a dynamic Higher Education institution dedicated to transforming lives through education, is seeking a Governance Manager and Assistant Secretary to Council to play a key role in supporting effective institutional governance and decision-making at the highest level of the organisation.

\n

Working closely with the University Secretary, you will support the University's governing body and committees, ensuring governance processes operate effectively, regulatory requirements are met, and senior leaders have the information and support required to make informed decisions.

\n

This is an excellent opportunity for a governance, board support, company secretarial or compliance professional who enjoys working with senior stakeholders and making a meaningful contribution within a purpose-driven organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • \n

    Support the University Secretary in providing high-level governance advice to the Council and senior leaders.

  • \n
\n
    \n
  • \n

    Coordinate the annual cycle of Council and committee meetings, ensuring agendas, papers and supporting documentation are prepared to a high standard.

  • \n
  • \n

    Draft reports, briefings, minutes and communications for a range of internal and external stakeholders.

  • \n
\n
    \n
  • \n

    Draught reports, briefings, and communications for diverse audiences.

  • \n
\n
    \n
  • \n

    Maintain and enhance governance systems and platforms, including Teams and SharePoint.

  • \n
  • \n

    Support the recruitment, onboarding and ongoing development of Council members.

  • \n
  • \n

    Organise and coordinate both virtual and in-person meetings, events and governance activities.

  • \n
  • \n

    Assist with governance reviews, statutory reporting requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • \n
  • \n

    Support the development and implementation of governance policies, procedures and frameworks.

  • \n
  • \n

    Build effective relationships with governors, senior leaders and key stakeholders across the institution.

  • \n

What We're Looking For:

\n
    \n
  • \n

    Previous governance, board support, committee management or company secretarial experience, ideally within Higher Education, the public sector, charity sector or another regulated environment.

  • \n
  • \n

    Experience working with senior leaders, trustees, governors, boards or executive committees.

  • \n
  • \n

    Proven ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • \n
  • \n

    Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience producing reports, briefing papers and meeting documentation.

  • \n
  • \n

    Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build credibility and influence at all levels.

  • \n
  • \n

    Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Teams and SharePoint.

  • \n
  • \n

    Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities within a complex environment.

  • \n
  • \n

    Graduate-level qualification or equivalent professional experience

  • \n
