\nAre you an experienced Fractional Finance Director looking to play a pivotal role in the growth of a successful construction business?
\nOur client is an established contractor with annual revenues of £15m–£20m and an ambitious growth strategy to reach £25m–£30m within the next three years. They are seeking a commercially focused Fractional Finance Director to work closely with the Managing Director and shareholders, providing strategic financial leadership while helping the business scale profitably.
\nThis is an outstanding opportunity for a senior Finance Director or CFO with a strong background in the construction sector who enjoys partnering with owner-managed businesses to drive sustainable growth, improve profitability and strengthen financial performance.
\nThe Role
\nAs Fractional Finance Director, you will become a trusted advisor to the Managing Director and leadership team, helping shape the company's long-term strategy while ensuring the financial controls, reporting and commercial insight are in place to support continued expansion.
\nWorking one day per week, your responsibilities will include:
\nDeveloping and delivering the company's three-year financial growth strategy.
\nDriving improvements in profitability, EBITDA and overall business performance.
\nStrengthening forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.
\nImproving cash flow, working capital and cash generation.
\nEnhancing project profitability reporting and commercial analysis.
\nDeveloping meaningful KPI reporting and management information.
\nSupporting shareholder value creation and strategic decision-making.
\nMentoring and developing the finance team.
\nProviding board-level financial guidance and commercial challenge.
\nConstruction Sector Experience Required
\nWe are looking for candidates with significant experience working within the construction industry, ideally across one or more of the following sectors:
\nElectrical Contracting
\nMechanical & Electrical (M&E)
\nBuilding Services
\nSpecialist Contractors
\nMain Contractors
\nConstruction Support Services
\nInfrastructure
\nEngineering Projects
\nYou should have hands-on experience with:
\nContract Accounting
\nWork in Progress (WIP)
\nRevenue Recognition
\nApplications for Payment
\nRetentions
\nProject Cost Control
\nSubcontractor Management
\nContract Risk Management
\nForecast Final Accounts
\nCash Flow Management
\nCommercial Project Reporting
\nAbout You
\nThe successful Fractional Finance Director will demonstrate both strategic leadership and strong commercial finance expertise.
\nEssential
\nACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified.
\nPrevious Finance Director or CFO experience.
\nSignificant construction sector experience.
\nExperience supporting businesses with turnovers between £10m and £50m.
\nExcellent commercial finance and business partnering skills.
\nProven track record of improving profitability and cash generation.
\nExperience working with owner-managed businesses.
\nStrong board-level communication and stakeholder management skills.
\nHighly Desirable
\nExperience growing a construction business from £10m–£20m to £25m–£35m+ turnover.
\nKPI reporting and project profitability reporting implementation.
\nBanking and funding experience.
\nAcquisition and business integration experience.
\nPrivate equity or investor-backed business experience.
\nERP implementation and finance transformation projects.
