Role Purpose

\n

To oversee the day-to-day transport operations, ensuring all daily operational targets are achieved safely, efficiently and cost-effectively. You will be responsible for supporting team performance, driving operational excellence and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate, supervise and develop the operational team, ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements, standard operating procedures and customer commitments.
  • \n
  • Ensure optimum business efficiency through effective workforce planning, roster management, absence management and justified overtime approval.
  • \n
  • Monitor operational costs and support the transport function in operating within agreed budgets and forecasts.
  • \n
  • Plan, manage and adjust staffing levels to meet changing operational requirements.
  • \n
  • Conduct regular one-to-one meetings and performance reviews, providing constructive feedback, coaching and development opportunities for team members.
  • \n
  • Manage transport-related purchasing activities, ensuring purchase requests and orders are processed accurately and promptly.
  • \n
  • Investigate vehicle and workplace incidents, identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, arrange additional training where required and produce reports for management.
  • \n
  • Act as a reliable and approachable point of contact for your team, supporting engagement and performance.
  • \n
  • Exercise sound judgement and work independently to resolve operational and delivery issues in a timely manner.
  • \n
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders and customers.
  • \n
  • Promote a safe working environment, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety policies and company standards.
  • \n
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, service levels and team performance.
  • \n

Skills & Experience

\n
    \n
  • Previous experience within a transport, logistics or distribution environment.
  • \n
  • Strong knowledge of UK Transport Legislation, the Working Time Directive, Drivers' Hours Regulations and Tachograph legislation.
  • \n
  • Proven experience managing and developing successful operational teams.
  • \n
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads effectively.
  • \n
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to assess risks and implement practical solutions quickly.
  • \n
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation and operational compliance.
  • \n
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships across the business.
  • \n

Hours - Monday to Friday, 9am - 5pm
