Senior Housing Benefit Appeals Officer£30 per hour (Umbrella)Monday to Friday | 9:00am – 5:00pmPrimarily Home-Based (Occasional Office Attendance)Contract Role We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Housing Benefit Appeals Officer to join a Local Authority team on a contract basis. This role is focused exclusively on appeals work and requires a specialist with strong experience managing complex cases through reconsideration, escalation and Tribunal stages.The Role You will be responsible for managing a caseload of Housing Benefit appeals, ensuring cases are progressed efficiently and in line with legislation, policy and Tribunal requirements.Key responsibilities include:\n

• Preparing and submitting Housing Benefit appeal cases
\n
• Managing reconsiderations and escalated appeals
\n
• Preparing detailed appeal submissions and legal documentation
\n
• Representing the Council at Tribunal hearings
\n
• Liaising with internal teams, legal representatives and external stakeholders
\n
• Ensuring compliance with current Housing Benefit legislation and guidance
\n
• Maintaining accurate case records and meeting strict deadlines
\n

Essential Requirements\n

\n
• Significant recent experience working specifically within Housing Benefit Appeals
\n
• Proven experience preparing appeal submissions and reconsiderations
\n
• Experience attending and representing cases at Tribunal hearings
\n
• Strong knowledge of Housing Benefit regulations and appeal procedures
\n
• Ability to manage complex caseloads independently
\n

Working Arrangements\n

\n
• Primarily remote/home-based role
\n
• Occasional office meetings required
\n
• Attendance at several Tribunal hearings each month is essential
\n
