Assistant HR Manager
Job Description
Assistant HR Manager opportunity available to start as soon as possible on a fixed term contract basis until October 2027 working for a leading retail company based onsite Monday-Friday at their Sheriff Hutton, North Yorkshire, site.
\nThey are looking for a positive, proactive, and approachable individual who enjoys building strong relationships and supporting managers and employees across a wide range of employee relations matters.
\nThe Role:

- Provide expert advice and guidance to managers on employee relations matters across the business. \n
- Manage ER cases from start to finish, including investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, and appeals. \n
- Ensure all ER matters are handled fairly, consistently, and in line with employment legislation and company policies. \n
- Support managers with short-term absence management, probation reviews, and flexible working requests. \n
- Coach and upskill managers on HR policies, procedures, and best practice approaches. \n
- Support employees and managers with progression planning. \n
- Assist with UK payroll administration and provide support with payroll-related queries. \n
- Collate, analyse, and report on people data, including absence trends and ER metrics. \n
- Occasionally support with delivering training sessions and workshops on people-related topics and workplace policies. \n
- Work collaboratively with the wider team to provide a positive employee experience. \n
- Travel to their Scunthorpe site on average twice per month \n
Skills and Experience required:
\n- \n
- Demonstrable experience providing HR and ER advice within a fast-paced environment. \n
- Strong knowledge of employee relations processes, policies, and UK employment law. \n
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and support stakeholders at all levels. \n
- A positive, proactive, and approachable attitude with a genuine passion for supporting people. \n
- Highly organised with meticulous attention to detail. \n
- Confident using HR systems and IT packages, including HR reporting tools. \n
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality at all times. \n
- A solutions-focused mindset with strong problem-solving abilities. \n
- CIPD Level 5 would be great, but is not essential. \n
- Previous payroll administration experience would be beneficial. \n
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites. \n
Working Hours & Location
\nThis is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week) with flexible start and finish times — begin your day between 8:00am and 9:30am, and finish between 4:00pm and 5:30pm, depending on your preference. Lunch breaks can be taken as either 30 minutes or 1 hour.
\nThis role is paying up to £35,000 DOE plus excellent additional Benefits.
