CNC SETUP / OPERATOR II

1st Shift | Monday–Friday | 6:00 AM–2:30 PM | Potential Overtime
Waterbury, CT | $20.00–$30.00 per hour
Position Overview
We are hiring two experienced CNC Setup/Operators to join a precision manufacturing team in Waterbury. This position is responsible for producing precision-machined lead screws by operating Swiss CNC machines while maintaining established quality, productivity, and safety standards.
The facility operates six Swiss CNC machines, and operators will frequently run two machines simultaneously. Production volume ranges from approximately 50 to 600 parts per day on each machine within a high-value, low-mix manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate Swiss CNC machines.
- Frequently operate two machines simultaneously.
- Manufacture precision lead screws according to blueprints and specifications.
- Adjust tooling and work offsets to maintain accurate specifications.
- Load raw materials and unload completed parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, specification drawings, quality plans, and work instructions.
- Measure and inspect completed parts for quality and dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect personal work and coworkers’ parts as required.
- Use snap gauges, digital calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, and other measuring instruments.
- Make machine adjustments to ensure parts meet required specifications.
- Operate equipment using Esprit programs.
- Utilize QMA, MAZ, and SPC databases as needed.
- Communicate machine, tooling, and quality concerns to the setup operator or area leader.
- Perform preventive maintenance, including maintaining lubricant and coolant levels.
- Complete daily equipment cleaning and chip removal.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all established operating procedures, quality requirements, and safety standards.
- Complete additional production duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical education or professional certification preferred.
- Three to five years of relevant CNC machining experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous CNC Swiss machine experience.
- CNC lathe experience preferred.
- Experience operating multiple machines simultaneously.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining practices.
- Ability to adjust tooling and work offsets.
- Ability to read blueprints, specification drawings, and written work instructions.
- Working knowledge of basic math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, snap gauges, optical comparators, and other measuring devices.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift more than 20 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to lift between 10 and 20 pounds frequently.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds continuously.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods, up to eight hours per day.
- Good manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Comfortable working in a moderate-noise manufacturing environment.
- Comfortable working around industrial cleaning chemicals, lubricants, and oils.
Compensation
Pay ranges from $20.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Potential overtime is available based on production needs.
