Lead the Finance Function for a Growing Construction Organization

Our client, a rapidly expanding construction company in the Denver Metro area, is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to guide the accounting and finance team through a period of continued growth and operational expansion. This 6-12 month contract engagement is ideal for a construction accounting leader who can provide hands-on leadership, strengthen financial processes, and support strategic business initiatives.

This role will partner closely with executive leadership, operations teams, project managers, and field leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong cash flow management, and effective project profitability analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end close
  • Lead financial reporting and ensure compliance with GAAP
  • Manage construction-specific accounting functions, including:
    • Job costing
    • Work-in-progress (WIP) reporting
    • Revenue recognition
    • Percentage-of-completion accounting
    • Project margin analysis
    • Change order and contract tracking
  • Partner with operations and project management teams to improve project profitability and cost controls
  • Monitor cash flow, forecasting, and working capital needs
  • Strengthen internal controls and accounting processes across multiple projects and business units
  • Support acquisition integrations, system implementations, and process standardization initiatives
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, bonding requirements, and lender reporting
  • Develop and mentor accounting staff while creating scalable processes for continued growth
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 5+ years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager role
  • Recent construction industry experience required
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Job costing
    • WIP schedules
    • Project accounting
    • Construction contracts
    • Financial statement preparation
  • Experience supporting multi-entity organizations and acquisition integrations preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • Experience with Viewpoint Vista, Spectrum, CMiC, Foundation, Sage 300 CRE, or similar construction ERP systems strongly preferred
  • Ability to quickly assess issues, implement solutions, and lead through change

Pay Details: $65.00 to $100.00 per hour
