Overview:

This role involves assessing and treating individuals who may have physical, emotional, cognitive, or psychosocial challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the patient's capacity to safely and effectively manage daily living activities. Develop a tailored care plan that specifies the type and frequency of treatments.
  • Execute the treatment plan utilizing suitable methods. Record patient progress and adjust the care plan as necessary, seeking guidance when required.
  • Inform the patient and their family or caregiver about the identified deficits. Assist with the discharge process from therapy services and provide guidance on the selection and use of adaptive equipment and support programs.
  • Supervise the care provided by designated personnel in accordance with established regulations and professional standards.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and ensure safety at all times.
  • Carry out additional tasks as assigned.

Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy or a related field necessary for state licensure.

Experience:

  • No prior experience is required.

Physical Demands:

  • Continuous standing.
  • Regular lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of items weighing between 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent verbal communication and auditory skills to convey information.
  • Regular auditory skills to detect body sounds and alarms from equipment.
  • Consistent visual acuity for both near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances.
  • Frequent walking, reaching, gripping, and data entry tasks.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, twisting, and repetitive movements of the legs and arms.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional patient handling.
  • Occasional visual assessment for distance and color differentiation.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling.

Licensure and Certifications Required:

Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS HCP) is mandatory within 90 days of employment. Additional resuscitation certifications may be required based on departmental needs.

State Licensure Requirements:

  • Illinois: Occupational Therapist - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
  • Missouri: Occupational Therapist - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • Oklahoma: Occupational Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board
  • Wisconsin: Occupational Therapist (OT) - Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services
