Business Development Manager, Proposals & Pursuits
Location: Chicago (preferred), Charlotte, NYC, Salt Lake City, San Francisco, DC
Salary: $140k-$160k + discretionary annual bonus

LHH is working with a repeat law firm client in Chicago with a growing business development and marketing team. The Business Development Manager will lead and execute the firm's RFPs, pitches, and pursuit efforts. You will work closely with marketing leaders (Director and CMO) to improve and expand the proposal/pursuit process, overseeing the end-to-end workflow, including development and submission of RFPs, and pitch materials. You will also manage the content library, data sources, coordinate survey and league table responses, and work with attorneys and BD staff on the continuous improvement of response standards.
Qualifications Needed
· Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience in producing proposals, pitch decks, pursuit presentations within law firm or financial services organization
· Experienced in analyzing RFPs, preparing responses, narrative, pricing, related disclosures, and using online submission portals
· Superior writing/editing/proofreading and visual storytelling skills
· Fluent in MS Word and PowerPoint
· CRM experience
· Strong sense of graphic design and layout with comfort using InDesign and Photoshop
Scope of Role and Responsibilities
· Lead and own all aspects of RFP response process, including RFPs, RFQs, RFIs, and client compliance surveys from notice to submission
· Produce proposal and pitch documents, identifying applicable content, editing existing content, drafting new content (overviews, experience summaries, bios, and statistics)
· Be the primary liaison for online proposal portals, coordinating responses with stakeholders
· Be an advisor to identify/implement best practices for pitch opportunities
· Manage go/no-go decisions; track proposal outcomes
· Own responsibility for all aspects of preparing pitch books and qual statements, including practice group descriptions
· Ensure newly developed content (summaries, bios, statistics) are added to the data sources and other relevant marketing materials
· Ensure design/formatting adhere to brand guidelines; recommend design enhancements to elevate presentations and training materials where appropriate
· Track pitch outcomes
· Oversee all aspects of firm legal/financial/business director and league table submissions
· Prepare responses for client specific survey requests; manage updates of internal deal/matter lists and stats
· Supervise/mentor staff who provide BD and pursuit support; supporting individual learning, training, and development
· Leverage competitive intelligence, provide advice to partners/leadership on pursuit strategy, differentiators, market trends, and client insights
· Use AI appropriately to create efficiencies for work product creation
· Collaborate with teams to improve knowledge/data sharing efficiency and process improvements where needed
Additional Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in related field
· Strong project management skills
· Self-starter, able to operate with limited direction and strong independent professional judgement
· Able to work under pressure, in a team-first orientation, diverse team environment, deadline-driven, and shifting priorities
· Able to work with discretion and confidentiality
