The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and includes Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community facility with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed campus of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.

Position Overview

In this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and effectively communicate the patient's clinical status, responding promptly and accurately to any changes in condition or treatment response.

You will demonstrate an understanding of growth and development principles across the lifespan, ensuring age-appropriate care for the patient population. Additionally, you will promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions and collegial relationships, reporting directly to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
  • Evaluate and manage pain, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques, while educating patients and families about pain management.
  • Develop and update individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Adhere to the five medication rights to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
  • Provide all aspects of patient care in a safe environment that fosters positive outcomes.
  • Document the nursing process and care responses promptly using the appropriate tools.
  • Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under pressure.
  • Employ critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritizing tasks and delegating responsibilities.
  • Develop and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of the education provided.
  • Practice autonomously in line with evidence-based standards, pursuing personal and professional development.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor within the profession.
  • Understand growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, peripheral and central line insertions, and epidural catheter placements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of airway management and the use of relevant equipment.
  • Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
  • Understand anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
  • Provide accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program and possession of a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
  • Preferred experience in critical care.
