Associate Veterinarian

Location: Edgewood, NM

Job Type: Full-Time (In-Person)

Schedule:

  • Four (4) 10-hour weekday shifts

  • Rotating Saturday coverage

  • Occasional weekend urgent care shifts with fewer weekday shifts to maintain work-life balance

  • Flexible scheduling available

Practice Setting

  • Privately owned small animal hospital

  • Outpatient and inpatient care

  • Collaborative team environment with experienced veterinarians, six Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), and dedicated support staff

Patient Population

  • Approximately 70% Dogs

  • Approximately 25% Cats

  • Approximately 5% Exotic/Other companion animals (optional based on provider interest)

  • Patients of all life stages, from puppies and kittens to geriatric pets

Patient Volume

  • Established practice with a loyal client base

  • Diverse daily caseload including wellness visits, preventive care, sick visits, surgeries, dentistry, and urgent care cases

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate Associate Veterinarian to join a well-established private small animal practice. This opportunity is ideal for both experienced veterinarians and new graduates looking for strong mentorship in a collaborative environment. The practice emphasizes high-quality medicine, excellent client communication, and a healthy work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive physical examinations.

  • Diagnose and treat acute and chronic medical conditions.

  • Develop individualized treatment plans.

  • Perform routine soft tissue surgeries and dentistry.

  • Interpret laboratory and diagnostic imaging results.

  • Administer vaccinations and preventive care.

  • Educate clients regarding treatment plans, nutrition, and preventive healthcare.

  • Maintain accurate medical records.

  • Collaborate with veterinarians, RVTs, and support staff to provide exceptional patient care.

  • Participate in urgent care cases as scheduled.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree required.

  • Eligible for or licensed to practice in New Mexico.

  • New graduates are welcome to apply.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

  • Passion for delivering compassionate, high-quality veterinary medicine.
