Job Description

The Security Team at Edinburgh Napier University provides round-the-clock services, ensuring a safe and secure environment across our campuses.Currently, we have opportunities available for Security and Safety Assistants to join us and support with building access, emergency support and out-of-hours health and safety reporting.We are a living wage employer and can guarantee you a pay rise each year , as well as excellent paid holiday entitlement based on 41 days per year.The Job:As Security and Safety Assistant, you will have the opportunity to use your experience of working in a customer focused environment along with your approachable, personal manner to support and direct students, staff and visitors to our University campuses as appropriate, whilst also ensuring a safe, first-class customer experience.The job is Permanent and Full Time, 12 hour shifts 2 Days then 2 Nights (4 on and 4 off) rota 7am -7pm and will see you taking charge of general safety across our campuses, as you enforce University regulations concerning Health & Safety; fire/hazards; use of library/computer suite facilities; security alarms; and data protection.We expect that you will have a flexible approach with the ability to respond positively to a variety of situations as you open and close down buildings, hold keys and control access / egress as required, undertake regular patrols both inside and outside buildings to note security hazards, report suspicious activity and prevent crime.Further to this, you will receive suitable training (if you havent already done so) to ensure that you can act as a responsible and capable first responder to individuals who may require emergency care or advice.Other important information:Salary: £24,479 - £26,093 p/a (depending on experience) plus 7% shift allowance and 376 hours of guaranteed overtime.Contract: Permanent, Full Time, 12-hour shifts 2 Days then 2 Nights (4 on and 4 off) rota 7am -7pm.Interviews: Week commencing 10 th August 2026Benefits:Paid holiday entitlement based on 41 days per yearAnnual pay rises (twice per year until top of pay scale)Generous pension scheme (employer contribution of 17.6%)Professional learning and development opportunitiesDiscounted access to onsite sports facilitiesWide range of other staff discountsWhat we will need from you:Proven experience of working face-to-face with a diverse range of people in a supportive, disciplined environment.A flexible approach with the ability to respond positively and take responsibility in a variety of situations.Ability to contribute positively as part of a small team and on own initiative under lone working conditions.Ability to undertake security foot/mobile vehicle patrols.Current UK valid driving licence required to undertake mobile vehicle patrols across all campuses and accommodation sites using University transport.Satisfactory Disclosure Scotland certification at Police Act Disclosure level (or willingness to obtain one)What next?Just click Apply and upload your application and CV.
