\nThe Role
\nAs a Controls Engineer you will be responsible for the development, programming, and support of control systems for special-purpose automated machinery supplied to the worldwide lead-acid battery industry. You will play a key role in delivering robust, safe, and high-performance automation solutions, supporting new machine builds, prototype development, and existing equipment in the field.
\nThis role offers the opportunity to work on complex automation projects, develop advanced controls expertise, and support global customers as part of a collaborative engineering team.
\nKey Responsibilities
\nCarry out PLC, HMI, and motion control programming and modification work
\nConfigure and integrate software and hardware for networked control systems with distributed I/O
\nProgram and integrate vision systems for inspection and measurement, using Cognex or similar platforms
\nProvide control system support for prototype machines, new builds, and existing equipment in the field
\nEnsure machine safety compliance with relevant international standards and best practices
\nPrepare control system documentation to support machine manufacture, testing, and customer handover
\nProvide customer support, including on-site commissioning, troubleshooting, and fault finding as required
\nIdentify opportunities to improve processes, productivity, and quality
\nActively participate in product development and continuous improvement initiatives
\nDevelop effective working relationships with internal teams, customers, and suppliers
\nFollow all workplace management rules and departmental procedures consistently
\nAct with integrity, professionalism, and respect at all times
\nLive the values of the business in everything you do
\nEnsure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
\nYou may also be required to undertake additional tasks or duties from time to time that are reasonably within your capabilities.
\nSkills, Knowledge & Experience
\nQualified to HNC / HND level or equivalent in a software, controls, or automation-related discipline
\nProven experience in PLC, HMI, and motion control programming
\nExperience with Rockwell Automation platforms, including Logix, Safety PLCs, Kinetix motion control, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View ME
\nExperience with Siemens control systems and TIA Portal advantageous
\nKnowledge of robotic applications preferred (Yaskawa desirable)
\nExperience with vision systems for inspection and measurement advantageous
\nStrong understanding of control system architecture and automation principles
\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills
\nSelf-motivated, enthusiastic, and confident communicating at all levels
\nPositive, adaptable approach with the ability to work in culturally diverse environments
\nStrong problem-solving skills with a supportive, solution-focused mindset
\nWillingness and ability to travel internationally for customer support and commissioning
\nFull passport and eligibility for international travel
\nTypical travel may involve 45 trips per year, each approximately 23 weeks in duration, depending on project requirements.
