Location: Crewkerne
Salary: £30,000 - £37,400 depending on experience
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced CNC Setter / Operator to join a leading precision engineering and manufacturing organisation based in Crewkerne.

\n

Working within a fast-paced machine shop environment, you will be responsible for setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes and grinding machines to produce high-precision components to exacting quality standards. This role offers the opportunity to work with advanced machining technology, supporting the manufacture of complex engineered products within a safety and quality-focused production environment.

\n

This position would suit an experienced CNC Setter / Operator who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality components and is committed to continuous improvement, efficiency and operational excellence.

What you will be doing

\n

As a CNC Setter / Operator, your responsibilities will include:

\n
    \n
  • Setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes and grinding machines
  • \n
  • Loading and adjusting CNC programmes to meet production requirements
  • \n
  • Performing machine set-ups, including tooling, fixtures and datum setting
  • \n
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications
  • \n
  • Carrying out first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment
  • \n
  • Monitoring machine performance and making offset adjustments where required
  • \n
  • Recording production and quality data accurately
  • \n
  • Supporting routine machine maintenance, housekeeping and continuous improvement activities
  • \n

What we are looking for

You will be an experienced CNC Machinist with strong setting and operating capabilities who enjoys working in a precision manufacturing environment.

Essential

\n
    \n
  • Experience setting and operating CNC machines within a manufacturing environment
  • \n
  • Experience working with sliding head lathes, CNC grinders or similar precision machining equipment
  • \n
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • \n
  • Experience producing components to tight tolerances
  • \n
  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers and verniers
  • \n
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability and commitment to quality
  • \n

  • Experience with sliding head machinery
  • \n
  • Experience operating CNC grinding machines
  • \n
  • Experience working within high-volume precision manufacturing environments
  • \n
