Were looking for a passionate and committed Tutor to deliver high-quality education within a prison environment. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners in developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need for rehabilitation, employability, and successful reintegration into society.

\n

As a Tutor, youll play a vital role in creating a positive learning experience that motivates learners and helps them achieve meaningful qualifications.

\n

This position is a working for 4 day week covering 7.5 hours a day.

\n

What youll be doing

Teaching & Learning

\n

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive lessons tailored to individual learner needs
  • \n
  • Create a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and achievement
  • \n
  • Differentiate teaching to support learners with diverse abilities and backgrounds
  • \n
  • Embed literacy, numeracy, digital skills, and employability into lessons
  • \n
  • Use motivational approaches to improve learner engagement and attendance
  • \n

Assessment & Progress

  • Assess learners starting points and develop individual learning plans (ILPs)
  • \n
  • Conduct formative and summative assessments
  • \n
  • Monitor and track learner progress accurately
  • \n
  • Provide constructive feedback to support development and achievement
  • \n
  • Prepare learners for internal and external qualifications
  • \n

Learner Support

  • Act as a role model, building confidence, resilience, and self-esteem
  • \n
  • Identify barriers to learning and work with support teams to address them
  • \n
  • Promote wellbeing, personal development, and rehabilitation
  • \n
  • Support learners in setting and achieving realistic education and career goals
  • \n
\n

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records, registers, and assessment documentation
  • \n
  • Contribute to quality assurance processes, including observations and audits
  • \n
  • Ensure delivery meets awarding body and organisational standards
  • \n
  • Adhere to all safeguarding, equality, and health & safety requirements
  • \n
\n

Teamwork & Development

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, prison staff, and external partners
  • \n
  • Take part in training, CPD, and team meetings
  • \n
  • Contribute to curriculum development and sharing best practice
  • \n
  • Support wider team needs, including occasional class cover
  • \n
\n

What were looking for

Essential

\n
    \n
  • Maths and English (Level 3 required for Functional Skills Tutors)
  • \n
  • Teaching qualification (Level 5+, e.g. PGCE/Cert Ed) or willingness to work towards
  • \n
  • Strong teaching, communication, and classroom management skills
  • \n
  • Ability to engage and support learners with diverse needs
  • \n
  • Resilience and professionalism when working in challenging environments
  • \n
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality, and health & safety
  • \n
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths & English (Entry 1Level 2)
  • \n
  • Strong administrative skills (ILPs, registers, progress tracking) [
  • \n
\n

Desirable

\n
    \n
  • Internal Quality Assurance qualification (or willingness to achieve)
  • \n
  • Experience in prison, FE, or adult learning environments
  • \n
  • Knowledge of OFSTED EIF
  • \n
  • Experience with diagnostic tools such as BKSB
  • \n
  • Experience using digital learning tools to enhance delivery
  • \n
