Fire Alarm Engineer / Operations & Service Manager

Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire, with travel across Hertfordshire, London and the Home Counties

\n

Salary: £40,000£60,000, depending on experience, plus performance-related incentives + Benefits

Are you an experienced Fire Alarm Engineer with strong servicing, maintenance and fault-finding skills? Would you like the opportunity to build and lead a new service division within an established fire and security business?

\n

The role

\n

Barnes & Bryant Fire and Security Ltd is creating a new Service & Small Works division and is looking for its first dedicated Service Engineer.

\n

Initially, you will take responsibility for day-to-day servicing, planned maintenance, fault-finding and remedial work. You will also help establish the processes, systems and client relationships needed to build a successful department.

\n

As the division grows, the position offers a clear route into an Operations & Service Manager role. You will recruit and lead engineers, manage department performance and work directly with the Directors to shape its commercial direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain and diagnose conventional and addressable fire alarm systems
  • \n
  • Complete work in line with BS 5839-1
  • \n
  • Work on evacuation alert, EVC, disabled refuge and PAVA systems where required
  • \n
  • Support intruder alarm, CCTV and access control systems
  • \n
  • Complete compliant service records, certificates and reports
  • \n
  • Manage service clients, maintenance schedules and site documentation
  • \n
  • Identify and quote for small works, upgrades and remedial projects
  • \n
  • Help establish scheduling, documentation and operational processes
  • \n
  • Support the recruitment and development of additional engineers
  • \n
  • Monitor response times, first-time-fix rates, client retention and profitability
  • \n

The person

\n
    \n
  • Proven experience servicing, maintaining and fault-finding fire alarm systems to BS 5839-1
  • \n
  • Experience working with conventional and addressable fire alarm systems
  • \n
  • Working knowledge of intruder alarms, CCTV and access control
  • \n
  • A relevant qualification, such as FIA units, City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • \n
  • A full UK driving licence
  • \n
  • Strong client communication and relationship-building skills
  • \n
  • The ability to manage your own diary and workload with minimal supervision
  • \n
  • Good organisational skills and a process-focused approach
  • \n
  • Commercial awareness, including quoting for small works and identifying additional opportunities
  • \n
  • The confidence to take ownership of a new service function
  • \n
  • The ambition to progress into an Operations & Service Manager role
  • \n
\n

Experience with evacuation alert systems, disabled refuge systems, EVC, PAVA or managing a team of engineers would be highly advantageous.
