Shift Manager- Digital Distribution
\nProactive Personnel are recruiting on behalf of a well-established business based in Telford.
\nIn this role as Shift Manager, you will be responsible for leading and motivating a team within a semi-automated Distribution Centre environment, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient warehouse operations.
\nThe role as a Shift Manager drives operational excellence through continuous improvement, effective use of automation/technology, and delivery of DMUK strategic goals across Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.
\nHours: Rotating Days | 7:00am 15:00pm / 15:00pm 23:00pm.
\nSalary:£40,759.37 per annum.
\nKey Responsibilities as Shift Manager to include but not limited to:
\nQuality:
\nPromote and embed a Quality First philosophy to achieve Right First Time (RFT).
\nEnsure goods receipt, storage, picking, and dispatch processes maintain high accuracy and care.
\nChallenge non-conformance and drive corrective actions.
\nMaintain stock integrity and ensure traceability.
\nEnsure audits (e.g. standardised work, DKM) are conducted and adhered to.
\nSupport internal and external quality audits (IATF/ISO).
\nSafety & Environmental:
\nLead a safety-first culture across all shift operations.
\nEnsure PPE compliance and adherence to all Health & Safety standards.
\nConduct H&S inspections, risk assessments, and Safe Systems of Work.
\nEnsure all incidents are reported, investigated, and actioned appropriately.
\nEnsure compliance with environmental standards and DMUK procedures (ISO 14001 / 45001).
\nChampion 5S standards and ensure workplace organisation and cleanliness.
\nDelivery:
\nManage day-to-day shift operations ensuring customer requirements are met.
\nEnsure delivery of parts to production lines on a Just-In-Time basis.
\nMonitor shift performance and ensure deadlines and KPIs are achieved.
\nEnsure escalation processes are followed for operational issues.
\nSupport New Product Introduction (NPI) and operational changes.
\nEnsure effective shift handovers and communication.
\nCoordinate resource allocation to meet business demand.
\nCost:

- Control labour resources to balance cost vs operational volume. \n
- Manage agency/contract staff efficiently to maintain productivity. \n
- Support budget adherence and cost improvement initiatives. \n
- Drive Kaizen activities to reduce waste and improve efficiency. \n

- Lead, coach, and develop a team of associates and team leaders. \n
- Manage team performance through engagement, coaching, and formal processes. \n
- Conduct appraisals, training needs analysis, and development plans. \n
- Deliver effective shift briefings and communication. \n
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of associates. \n
- Develop a continuous improvement mindset across the team (Kaizen culture). \n
Performance Measures:

- KPI delivery (accuracy, productivity, service levels). \n
- Reduction in incidents, errors, and waste. \n

- Delivery of departmental and personal objectives. \n
Dimensions:

- Responsibility for day-to-day shift operation within the Distribution Centre. \n
- Leadership of a large team (including agency staff) potentially 30+ associates. \n
- Oversight of warehouse processes including goods-in, storage, picking, and dispatch. \n
- Accountable for operational performance, safety compliance, and cost control. \n
- Interface with cross-functional teams (HR, Materials, Engineering, etc.). \n
Ideal Shift Manager Candidate:
\nExperience managing teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
\nStrong leadership and communication skills.
\nGood planning, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
\nExperience with WMS / warehouse systems and stock control.
\nAbility to manage multiple priorities in a high complexity environment.
\nHigh level of numeracy and literacy.
\nExperience delivering against KPI targets.
\nUnderstanding Health & Safety requirements in a warehouse environment.
\nProficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).
\nExperience of continuous improvement / Lean / Kaizen.
\nAbility to motivate and engage teams to achieve objectives.
\nDesirable:
\nExperience within an automated or semi-automated warehouse environment.
\nKnowledge of robotics / autonomous systems (e.g. AGVs / AMRs).
\nFormal management qualification (CMI or equivalent).
\nIOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
\nFLT licenses (Counterbalance / Bendi).
\nExperience in automotive manufacturing.
