Our client is a South Wales-based charity seeking an experienced Payroll Officer for a six-month fixed-term contract.

The role will support accurate, compliant payroll delivery and maintain strong financial controls across payroll and related finance processes.

  • Take responsibility for the accurate and timely delivery of the organisations monthly payroll, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements, pension regulations, employment legislation and internal policies.

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll process, from data collection through to payroll completion and bank file preparation.
  • \n
  • Maintain payroll records, process starters, leavers and contractual changes, complete RTI submissions, administer pension auto-enrolment and monthly pension uploads.
  • \n
  • Process statutory payments, salary adjustments, overtime claims and ad hoc payments.
  • \n
  • Ensure payroll costs are accurately allocated across departments and projects.
  • \n
  • Prepare and post monthly payroll journals, complete payroll reconciliations and support year-end payroll processes.
  • \n
  • Act as the primary point of contact for payroll queries, manage the payroll inbox and respond to colleague enquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • \n
  • Liaise with HMRC and pension providers to resolve payroll-related queries.
  • \n
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, controls and user experience.
  • \n
  • Provide finance support, including administering employee expenses, processing and reconciling credit card and charge card transactions, processing recurring invoices, supporting month-end activities, assisting with year-end information and audit requests, and providing wider Finance Team support when required.

About you\n

  • Experienced payroll professional who can quickly establish themselves as a trusted and reliable member of the Finance Team.
  • \n
  • Strong knowledge of payroll administration, payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, RTI submissions, workplace pensions and auto-enrolment processes.
  • \n
  • Experience processing statutory payments, payroll adjustments, payroll reconciliations and payroll journals.
  • \n
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
  • \n
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • \n
  • Confident handling confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • \n
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • \n
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team while also working independently.
  • \n
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to identify and implement process improvements.
  • \n
  • Desirable: Experience using payroll software, experience within the charity or not-for-profit sector, a payroll, finance or accounting qualification such as CIPP, AAT or equivalent, and the ability to communicate in Welsh would be advantageous.
