FPGA Design Engineer (Software Defined Radio)

Location: Aberdeen, MD
Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced FPGA Design Engineer to design, develop, and test FPGA-based capabilities for mission-critical applications. This role offers the opportunity to work hands-on with Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies in a fast-paced R&D environment focused on innovation, rapid development, and practical engineering solutions.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop cutting-edge FPGA and embedded solutions while contributing throughout the entire product development lifecycle-from research and architecture through implementation, testing, and deployment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and test FPGA-based SDR solutions.

  • Research signal processing techniques, communication protocols, and FPGA technologies.

  • Develop system architectures and design documentation.

  • Implement and optimize VHDL/Verilog code for FPGA applications.

  • Develop software supporting FPGA configuration, control, and data processing.

  • Simulate, debug, test, and validate FPGA designs.

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and field engineers during system integration.

  • Optimize system performance and troubleshoot hardware/software issues.

  • Maintain coding standards and version control practices.

  • Support field testing and system validation.

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience developing Software Defined Radio (SDR) solutions.

  • Strong VHDL programming experience.

  • Experience with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.

  • Linux development experience.

  • Experience with Git, SVN, or Mercurial.

  • Active DoD Secret Clearance (Top Secret/SCI preferred).

  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

  • RF communications experience.

  • Experience using RF test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Vector Signal Generator, RSA).

  • Experience with C and Python.

  • Advanced VHDL development experience.

  • Experience with FPGA debugging tools such as ChipScope or SignalTap.

  • Previous mentoring or technical leadership experience.
