Maintenance Manager Needed
Job Description
Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Easton, Maryland, is rooted in the earliest history of Catholicism on the Eastern Shore. Catholic life in the region dates back to the 1600s, when Maryland was founded as a refuge for Catholics. During periods of persecution under English Penal Laws, Mass was celebrated quietly in private homes and manor chapels by courageous missionary priests.
By the late 17th and 18th centuries, Jesuit missionaries served Catholics throughout Talbot County and beyond, often at great personal risk. A significant milestone occurred in 1765 with the establishment of St. Josephs Church in Cordova, the oldest Catholic church in continuous use on the Eastern Shore, which later became closely linked to Saints Peter & Paul.
As Easton grew, the need for a permanent Catholic presence became clear. In the 1860s, the Redemptorists were sent to Easton, and under the leadership of Fr. William Gross, C.S.S.R., the first church was constructed and completed in 1868. In 1878, Saints Peter & Paul received its first resident diocesan pastor, marking the beginning of sustained parish life in Easton.
Throughout the 20th century, the parish expanded its mission and ministries. Under the long and faithful leadership of Msgr. Joseph H. Irwin (19251969), Saints Peter & Paul Elementary and High Schools were established, and Catholic worship was extended to surrounding communities, including St. Michaels.
In recent decades, the parish has continued to grow and renew itself. A new church was dedicated in 2005, along with extensive renovations to mission churches, schools, and parish facilities. Today, Saints Peter & Paul remains a vibrant faith community committed to worship, education, and service.
The present pastor is Father James Nash.
