Job Description
Empower a student's educational journey and make a difference every day as an experienced American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter in a Northern Virginia school setting. You’ll play a pivotal role supporting a 15-year-old student at an alternative education program, delivering 1:1 interpreting and facilitating full participation in classroom activities. This contract role offers a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week, running from your earliest availability through May 26, 2027. On-site presence is required to best serve the student and collaborate with dedicated educational professionals.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Experience as a sign language interpreter in educational environments preferred
- Ability to work independently and adapt communication to student needs
- VQAS Level III or EIPA score of 3.5 (final determination in progress)
- Commitment to starting the VA Department of Social Services check promptly
- Willingness to provide TB test results per Virginia regulations
Your Role Will Include:
- Providing accurate and timely ASL interpretation for one student in all aspects of their school day
- Working closely with teachers, staff, and family to support the student’s academic and social experience
- Promoting inclusion and understanding within the classroom
- Maintaining confidentiality and adherence to school policies
- Participating in school meetings and ongoing professional development as needed
