Registered Nurse - Float

Position Overview:

Department: Float Pool

Schedule: 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM, with a rotation of every third weekend and holiday.

This role involves floating across various departments, including Emergency, Med/Surg, and ICU, with the possibility of also covering the Family Birth unit.

Preferred qualifications include 1-2 years of RN experience in critical care settings (Emergency, ICU, PACU). Previous training in ultrasound IV is advantageous.

Position Summary:

The role entails delivering direct nursing care in alignment with the established policies, procedures, and protocols of our healthcare organization.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY DUTIES

• Employs medical-surgical nursing standards to enhance patient care quality and overall well-being for patients, families, and significant others by systematically assessing the effectiveness of nursing practices.
• Builds strong relationships and advocates for patients and their families to create personalized care plans tailored to individual needs.
• Utilizes the nursing process to formulate and execute care plans, gather assessment data, establish nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate results.
• Creates assessment and management strategies that consider the physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure aspects of human responses to health issues.
• Demonstrates understanding of how actual or potential illnesses affect each patient's overall status across various dimensions.
• Exhibits leadership by coordinating with patients, families, communities, and interprofessional team members to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
• Engages in effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers to ensure collaborative decision-making that is culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane, while considering available resources.
• Educates patients and families on measures that promote health, maintain well-being, and enhance comfort.
• Encourages a positive work environment by mentoring and serving as a role model for nursing colleagues and students.
• Applies evidence-based practices and scientific knowledge to medical-surgical nursing, ensuring care is tailored to the specific age and clinical needs of patients as outlined in the department's Scope of Service.
• Maintains a constant state of alertness and operates safely.
• May conduct point-of-care testing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

• Graduate from an accredited nursing program or equivalent educational background for licensing.

EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of one year of registered nursing experience (Ministry Float) or two years of registered nursing experience (Regional Float).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Regularly uses speech for effective oral communication.
• Constantly stands and walks.
• Frequently lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
• Regularly sits, reaches, and engages in data entry.
• Frequently utilizes vision and depth perception for close and distant tasks, including color differentiation.
• Regularly uses smell to identify odors.
• Frequently employs hearing to receive oral communication and detect alarms or machinery issues.
• Occasionally lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
• Occasionally assists in moving patients.
• Occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, squats, twists, grips, and performs repetitive movements with feet/legs and hands/arms.
• Occasionally drives.
• Rarely crawls or runs.
