Position Overview: Chair, Musculoskeletal Service Line

Our organization is in search of a Chair for the Musculoskeletal Service Line within the Department of Orthopedics. This role is pivotal in overseeing the quality of educational, scientific, and clinical initiatives within the department. The Chair will lead and manage the department effectively, ensuring optimal utilization of personnel, finances, space, and other resources to achieve the clinical, educational, and research objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhance clinical operations while fostering an environment that supports business development, education, clinical productivity, research, and exceptional surgical care.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering high-quality care, research, education, and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team and physicians to drive innovation and align with the organization’s mission.
  • Guide the department through changes in the healthcare landscape with emotional intelligence, promoting a culture of collaboration, stewardship, and transparency.
  • Interface with other system leaders to integrate emergency care and ensure comprehensive cross-continuum care.
  • Work closely with the Vice President of Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Service Line to plan and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee performance measures that enhance the overall system.
  • Engage with referring physicians to promote the Musculoskeletal Service Line.
  • Set a strategic vision for the Service Line in collaboration with regional and local leadership.
  • Accountable for clinical care delivery, recruitment, research growth, educational programs, and community service.
  • Lead the transformation of the Service Line into the Musculoskeletal Institute.
Collaboration and Leadership

In partnership with the Vice President, the Chair will:

  • Establish recruitment strategies for staff and physicians based on budget and volume needs, including succession planning.
  • Develop evidence-based protocols and build Centers of Excellence (COEs) across the system.
  • Ensure quality and performance improvement efforts align with patient experience.
  • Identify and prioritize campus-specific expansion opportunities that align with service line and organizational strategic goals.
  • Enhance the organization’s academic and research profile.
  • Participate in system-wide committees and service line-specific meetings.
Compensation and Benefits

The base salary for this position starts at $850K, with additional stipends available for administrative responsibilities. The role reports directly to the Chief Clinical Officer for clinical direction and the Chief Operating Officer for operational and financial planning.

Working Conditions

This position involves a clinical and administrative split of 70% clinical and 30% administrative responsibilities. The Chair will coordinate the Service Line across six hospitals and various ambulatory service sites.
