Job Description
Inspire young learners and make a difference as a Special Education Teacher in the North Chicago suburbs. This contract opportunity is perfect for dedicated educators ready to support elementary students’ academic and social-emotional growth for the 2026-2027 school year. You’ll work a consistent full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, providing specialized instruction and inclusive support in a resource classroom serving students in grades K-4.
Your day will include managing a caseload of 8-12 students, balancing both pull-out sessions for targeted skill-building and push-in support within general education classes. This position is designed for those passionate about individualized student success, and who value collaborative relationships with colleagues and families.
Qualifications and Preferred Experience:
- Current Professional Educator License (PEL) or eligibility for PEL; out-of-state license holders should consult ISBE Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS)
- Experience teaching special education, especially at the elementary level
- Training or certification in Orton-Gillingham or similar structured literacy programs (such as SLANT, Wilson, Sonday, etc.) strongly preferred
- Strong commitment to inclusive practices, differentiated instruction, and fostering a positive learning environment
- Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and provide classroom support to K-4 students with diverse needs
- Develop and implement IEP goals and progress monitoring aligned with student strengths and areas of growth
- Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families for student-centered programming
- Support both academic achievement and social-emotional growth
- Maintain thorough documentation of student progress and compliance requirements
