Fiscal/Accounting Specialist
Job Description
Support financial operations for a state agency, focusing on the accurate closeout of federally, locally, and state-funded transportation projects. This role works across multiple financial systems to process vouchers, reconcile accounts, and ensure regulatory compliance, while supporting broader fiscal functions for the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete accurate, compliant closeout of transportation projects, including vouchers and cost settlements with local agencies and third parties
- Utilize financial and project management systems (including ERP and BI reporting tools) to execute closeout tasks
- Perform accounting functions and financial reporting, including data validation, reconciliation, and report development in Excel
- Review and process financial data for accuracy and compliance
- Assist with reconciliations and audits
- Maintain organized financial records and documentation
- Support departmental financial operations and respond to confidential/sensitive inquiries as needed
Requirements
- Undergraduate coursework in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field
- 6 months of accounting/finance experience or training (with intermediate spreadsheet skills), OR 30 months of equivalent experience/training
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (reconciliation, reporting, data analysis)
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and fiscal regulations
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work onsite in a structured environment
