Job Description
Make a difference in the lives of elementary students as a Special Education Teacher in a North Chicago-area school, working full-time with a dedicated K-4 caseload (8-12 students). This contract position begins August 27, 2026 and continues through June 11, 2027, Monday through Friday, for 35 hours per week. Your work will combine both resource room support with pull-out direct instruction and inclusive push-in support in general education settings, helping students achieve both academic and social-emotional growth.
To excel in this role, you should bring:
- Valid Professional Educator’s License (PEL) or eligibility; out-of-state applicants should review the ISBE Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) for PEL application process.
- Special Education Teacher certification.
- Preferred: Training or certification in Orton Gillingham, SLANT, Wilson, Sonday, or similar approaches.
- Experience supporting elementary-aged children with a variety of learning needs in resource and general education environments.
- Strong skills in differentiated instruction, behavioral management, and collaborative team communication.
- Passion for fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where every child can thrive.
Responsibilities will include:
- Delivering specially designed instruction with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional components.
- Creating and implementing IEPs in collaboration with general educators and specialists.
- Providing both pull-out and push-in services, adapting strategies as needed.
- Monitoring student progress and communicating consistently with families and teams.
