The Greater Manchester Region employs around 2,500 individuals and encompasses Manchester Memorial Hospital, a community hospital with 249 beds, Rockville General, a 102-bed facility that is part of Manchester Memorial Hospital, a large multispecialty provider group, and visiting nurse services. This region serves approximately 300,000 residents across 19 towns.
Position OverviewIn this role, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care, both directly and indirectly. You will coordinate care by collaborating with an interdisciplinary team and effectively communicate the patient's clinical status, responding promptly and accurately to any changes in their condition or treatment response.
Demonstrating an understanding of growth and development principles, you will provide age-appropriate care tailored to the patient population. You will also promote the nursing profession through supportive interactions with colleagues, reporting to the Clinical Nurse Manager.
Key Competencies- Effective communication skills in English, both spoken and written.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments and re-assessments of patients, considering psychosocial, physical, educational, and cultural factors.
- Evaluate and manage pain, utilizing appropriate tools and techniques, while educating patients and families on pain management strategies. Ensure documentation reflects assessments, interventions, and their effectiveness.
- Develop and update individualized care plans based on assessments and patient responses, collaborating with other disciplines as necessary.
- Adhere to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors, demonstrating knowledge of medications and their proper administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Deliver all aspects of patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and promotes positive outcomes.
- Document the nursing process and patient responses promptly using the appropriate tools.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and the ability to function effectively under stress, employing critical thinking and sound judgment in prioritization and delegation.
- Create and implement educational plans for patients and families based on identified learning needs, assessing the effectiveness of the education provided.
- Demonstrate autonomous practice aligned with evidence-based standards and pursue ongoing personal and professional development.
- Serve as a professional role model and mentor.
- Understand growth and development principles across the lifespan, providing age-appropriate care and interpreting data to meet each patient's specific needs.
- Assist physicians with procedures in the peri-anesthesia care setting, including cardioversion, peripheral and central line insertions, and epidural catheter placements.
- Exhibit knowledge of airway management and the use of relevant equipment.
- Assess cardio-respiratory systems for changes and provide appropriate interventions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, their actions, and potential side effects.
- Provide accurate and relevant reports on patient conditions for safe transitions of care.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing program and hold a current Registered Nurse license in the State of Connecticut.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support is required upon hire or must be obtained during the introductory orientation period, with ongoing clinical competency maintained throughout employment.
- Critical care experience is preferred.
