Payroll Specialist
Job Description
Location: Richmond, VA
Compensation: $65,000–$70,000 annually
The Payroll Specialist manages accurate and timely payroll processing for a large, multi-state workforce. This role ensures payroll compliance, audits payroll data, resolves pay-related issues, and partners with HR, Finance, and Operations to support efficient payroll practices and a positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities- Process high-volume, multi-state payrolls.
- Review payroll data for accuracy and compliance.
- Handle employee pay changes, bonuses, commissions, PTO payouts, and final pay.
- Process payroll adjustments, corrections, manual payments, and off-cycle payrolls.
- Audit timekeeping records and resolve discrepancies.
- Review overtime, missed punches, and attendance exceptions.
- Partner with managers to address payroll and timekeeping concerns.
- Support payroll and timekeeping system functionality.
- Maintain payroll records and meet all processing deadlines.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Human Resources, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 3+ years of payroll experience in a high-volume environment.
- Experience with multi-state and multi-location payroll operations.
- Experience supporting organizations with 1,000+ employees preferred.
- Familiarity with payroll and timekeeping systems.
- Understanding of payroll regulations, taxes, wage and hour laws, and garnishment processing.
- Payroll auditing and reconciliation experience.
- Strong Excel and reporting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong customer service, communication, and confidentiality standards.
