Heart Transplant Fellowship Opportunity in Pennsylvania

Overview of the Position:

We are seeking a Heart & Lung Transplant Fellow to engage in specialized training within two high-volume services. The fellow will support the Heart and Lung Transplant programs, gradually taking on more responsibilities towards achieving independence under the guidance of the co-chiefs of the division. This fellowship is structured around rotations. Besides surgical duties, the fellow will also act as a teaching assistant for junior cardiothoracic fellows and residents, enhancing their learning through bedside instruction, case-based discussions, and organized educational sessions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily management of heart and lung transplant inpatients, which includes pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care, as well as ICU rounds and discharge planning.
  • Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration with transplant cardiology, pulmonology, advanced heart and lung failure teams, ECMO/VAD services, infectious diseases, pharmacy, physical therapy/occupational therapy, social work, and care management.
  • Engage in organ offers/list management, selection conferences, operative planning, and participation in the operating room for transplant and related procedures.
  • Contribute to quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives within the transplant programs.
  • Participate in on-call duties as assigned.
