Job Description

Job OverviewRocky Mountain Dam is seeking a certified Hydroelectric Crane Operator to execute heavy lifting operations inside our powerhouse and across the facility grounds. You will operate overhead gantry cranes, mobile cranes, and specialized rigging systems to lift, move, and position massive hydropower components like turbine runners, rotors, and headgates. This role requires absolute precision, an uncompromised commitment to safety, and a valid NCCCO certification.Key Responsibilities

  • Critical Powerhouse Lifts: Operate heavy overhead gantry cranes to lift and position high-value, massive hydro generation equipment during overhauls.
  • \n
  • Mobile Crane Operations: Drive and operate mobile cranes across the dam facility for maintenance, construction, and debris clearance.
  • \n
  • Rigging & Lift Planning: Develop and review comprehensive lift plans, calculate load weights, determine centers of gravity, and select appropriate rigging gear.
  • \n
  • Daily Inspections: Perform pre-shift safety inspections on cranes, cables, hooks, and rigging hardware, documenting all findings.
  • \n
  • Signal Coordination: Communicate clearly with ground crews using standard hand signals and dedicated radio channels during blind or complex lifts.
  • \n
  • Equipment Maintenance: Assist mechanics with routine lubrication, cable spooling, and minor preventative maintenance on lifting equipment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Certification: Active NCCCO Certification with required designations (e.g., Overhead Crane [OVR], Telescopic Boom [TSS/TLC]).
  • \n
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years operating heavy cranes, preferably in a power plant, dam, or heavy industrial environment.
  • \n
  • Licensing: Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL Class A or B) to transport mobile equipment if required.
  • \n
  • Safety Protocol: Master level understanding of OSHA crane standards, ASME B30 volumes, and strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) rules.
  • \n
  • Physical Demands: Excellent depth perception, ability to work at heights, climb crane cabs, and work in loud or variable weather conditions.
