Are you ready to step away from the pressures of private practice and return to what truly matters-caring for patients? The Beckley VA Medical Center is seeking a General Cardiologist to join a mission-driven team where your work makes a real difference in the lives of our nation's Veterans.

\n Provide inpatient cardiology care in a supportive, collegial environment. You'll work alongside Hospitalists managing complex cases, covering a 13-bed inpatient unit and 5-bed ICU, while also performing stress testing, interpreting echocardiograms, and contributing to outpatient clinic services.

1. Preventive Cardiology
\n - Risk assessment (hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, family history)
\n - Lifestyle modification counseling (diet, exercise, smoking cessation)

2. Diagnostic Evaluation
\n - Physical examination and history review for cardiac symptoms (chest pain, dyspnea, palpitations, syncope)
\n - Interpretation of diagnostic tests:
\n - Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG)
\n - Echocardiography
\n - Stress testing (exercise, pharmacologic)
\n - Holter monitor and event recorders
\n - Cardiac CT, MRI (often coordinated with subspecialists)

3. Management of Common Cardiovascular Diseases
\n - Coronary artery disease (stable/unstable angina, myocardial infarction-post-acute management)
\n - Heart failure
\n - Arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular arrhythmias)
\n - Hypertension
\n - Hyperlipidemia
\n - Valvular heart disease (aortic, mitral, tricuspid)
\n - Cardiomyopathies

4. Coordination of Care:
\n - Referral to subspecialists as needed (interventional cardiology, electrophysiology, advanced heart failure)
\n - Collaboration with primary care and other specialties for complex patient care

5. Procedures (typically non-invasive):
\n - Interpretation of non-invasive studies
\n - In some cases, performance of transthoracic echocardiograms, exercise stress tests

Exclusions (usually not part of general cardiologist scope):
\n - Invasive procedures (e.g. cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, device implantation)
\n - Advanced heart failure therapies (LVAD, heart transplant)
\n - Complex electrophysiology procedures (ablation, pacemaker/ICD insertion)

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm
Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: May be Authorized

Performance Pay: Up to 15K annually
