Position Details

Location: Lowell General Hospital - 295 Varnum Avenue, Lowell, MA

Hours: 40 hours per week - Shifts include Days, Evenings, Overnights, with rotating weekends and holidays.

Job Summary

This role involves being an allied health professional focused on delivering advanced emergency and non-emergency medical care to critical and emergent patients, utilizing an expanded scope of practice and medication formulary. You will possess the intricate knowledge and skills necessary for patient care during both emergent and non-emergent medical transport.

As part of a comprehensive mobile integrated response team, you will operate under medical supervision, conducting thorough assessments and utilizing available diagnostics to collaborate with the medical control physician. This collaboration aims to determine suitable treatments and intermediate care strategies for patients with acute and chronic conditions, ultimately reducing the need for emergency department visits and hospital admissions. You will respond to patient care needs, make appropriate referrals, and educate patients and their families about their medical conditions. Additionally, you will conduct patient care visits while maintaining real-time communication with board-certified emergency physicians or the attending physician, working cooperatively within the healthcare system to ensure quality care.

Minimum Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Paramedic program.
• Nationally Registered Paramedic certification.
• Massachusetts Paramedic certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
• At least two (2) years of relevant experience.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties outline the general nature of the work and are not exhaustive. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed:

• Adhere to performance improvement clinical benchmarks.
• Handle phone communications professionally.
• Complete required patient care documentation in the electronic medical record systems.
• Utilize safety equipment and avoid hazards.
• Correctly follow clinical protocols, plans, policies, and physician orders.
• Participate in peer review quality assurance and departmental rounds as requested.
• Attend a minimum of six (6) departmental rounds annually unless exempted.
• Exhibit effective scene management and leadership, adhering to Incident Command System (ICS) protocols.
• Efficiently follow operational procedures to maximize resource utilization.
• Demonstrate positive teamwork and initiative during EMS operations.
• Collaborate professionally with all allied health and public safety personnel.
• Draw labs as ordered and document in the hospital EMR (Epic).
• Maintain supplies and ensure equipment cleanliness on mobile units.
• Perform various medical procedures as needed, including 12 Lead EKGs, wound care, and activities of daily living (ADL) in both home and hospital settings.
• Complete all necessary training within one year of employment to operate in an expanded scope of practice, covering areas such as rapid sequence intubation, surgical cricothyrotomy, ultrasound-guided IV placement, and more.
