Key Responsibilities
- The main duties will involve analyzing and interpreting test results, preparing and reviewing final reports, and documenting karyotyping, FISH, microarray, and OGM analyses for oncological, prenatal, and postnatal samples.
- The Laboratory Director at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level will support the Medical Director in overseeing the direction, management, and administration of specimen handling, testing, and reporting, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and confidentiality for clients and patients.
- Working in a cutting-edge academic laboratory, the selected candidate will be expected to develop and validate in-house assays relevant to oncology and other clinical applications.
- Additional tasks will include maintaining standard operating procedure manuals, implementing quality control measures, and guiding cytogenetics technical staff in proficiency testing programs as mandated by regulatory and licensing bodies (CLIA, CAP).
- The Laboratory Director will collaborate closely with the Division of Molecular & Genomic Pathology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and will engage in the education of Pathology and OB/GYN residents/fellows, as well as training LGG fellows through the ACGME-accredited program.
- Innovation is a core aspect of our work, and we encourage the candidate to engage in publishing, collaboration, and the development of new tests. Support for teaching and research activities is available from both the department and the institution.
What We Offer
- Academic rank, tenure, and salary will be aligned with experience. The individual will hold a full-time faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and participate in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
- If the candidate has an existing or developing extramurally funded research program, appropriate transition or seed funding, along with space and resources, will be provided.
- Comprehensive health, life, and disability insurance.
- Occurrence-based malpractice insurance.
- A defined contribution plan and a 403b plan with employer matching.
- Reimbursement for relocation expenses up to $10,000.
- Six weeks of vacation and continuing medical education (CME) time.
- $4,110 allocated for CME activities.
Qualifications
- Applicants should possess an MD/DO and/or PhD in Biology and be ABMGG-Certified or eligible for certification in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG) or Cytogenetics.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in cytogenetic testing of oncology specimens and those who have developed new molecular and cytogenetic tests, including Optical Genome Mapping.
