The Department of Radiation Oncology at our organization in Johnstown, PA, is thrilled to announce an opening for a medical physicist to join our esteemed team under the guidance of Dr. Saiful Huq. Dr. Huq is internationally recognized for his significant scientific and professional contributions, including his roles as a member of TG51, chair of TG100, and participant in IAEA TRS398 and TRS483 Codes of Practice. He served as the President of the AAPM in 2020 and has mentored numerous young medical physicists who are now making an impact globally. Candidates should possess an M.S. or Ph.D. in Physics or Medical Physics. While ABR/ABMP Certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Therapy Medical Physics is preferred, it is not mandatory. Applicants must meet the criteria for qualified experts as defined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and/or the Pennsylvania State regulatory agency. There is flexibility to work 1-2 days remotely, but candidates must reside within a reasonable commuting distance from Johnstown.

Position Highlights:

  • Become part of a team delivering comprehensive clinical medical physics services, which include regular quality assurance testing of radiotherapy equipment, dosimetric calibration, ensuring compliance with Pennsylvania radiation safety and licensing regulations, providing routine clinical support, and implementing 4DCT and gated radiation therapy.
  • Receive full support from the Medical Physics Division.
  • Join a network of over 30 medical physicists within the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network.

  • The Radiation Oncology Department is equipped with Varian 23EX linear accelerators featuring on-board kV imaging, cone-beam CT, and gated Rapid Arc delivery, along with a GE Discovery 4D CT simulator and a comprehensive array of quality assurance tools. Treatment planning and medical record documentation are managed using the Varian Eclipse TPS and ARIA EMR.
