Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), with proven interpreting skills
- Previous experience interpreting in an educational setting, ideally at the high school level
- Current certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or state credential)
- Ability to collaborate with educators, staff, students, and families
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Adaptability and patience while working with diverse student needs
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate communication between Deaf or hard of hearing students and their peers, instructors, and school personnel
- Interpret spoken and signed communication during lessons, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Support students’ access to the academic curriculum, social activities, and school events
- Consult with educational teams to adapt materials or instructions as necessary
- Assist in fostering an inclusive, supportive learning atmosphere
- Maintain accurate records and document services as needed
