Job Description

Tax Advisory Manager – Newcastle-under-Lyme

\n

£50,000–£80,000 depending on experience | Flexible and hybrid working

\n

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced tax professional to join a leading independent accountancy practice in Newcastel-under-Lyme.

\n

The firm has an excellent regional reputation, an established client base and a growing demand for higher-value tax advisory support. This role will provide the opportunity to work closely with business owners, entrepreneurs, family-owned companies and high-net-worth individuals on a varied range of tax planning projects.

\n

The position can be shaped around the successful candidate’s experience. The firm would consider an established Tax Manager, an experienced Assistant Manager ready to progress, or a more senior individual capable of taking on wider client and team responsibilities.

\n

This is an opportunity to move away from a predominantly compliance-focused position and develop a genuinely varied advisory career within a successful independent practice.

Duties and responsibilities\n

You will work closely with Partners, senior colleagues and clients to deliver practical and commercially focused tax advice.

\n

Your responsibilities are likely to include:

\n
    \n
  • Managing a varied portfolio of tax advisory projects from initial consultation through to completion.
  • \n
  • Building strong relationships with business owners, directors, entrepreneurs and private clients.
  • \n
  • Advising on company reorganisations, reconstructions and group restructuring.
  • \n
  • Supporting clients with business acquisitions, disposals and succession planning.
  • \n
  • Advising shareholders on extracting value from their businesses tax-efficiently.
  • \n
  • Providing tax planning around company sales, management buyouts and ownership changes.
  • \n
  • Advising on capital gains tax, inheritance tax and business property relief.
  • \n
  • Supporting clients with employee share schemes, incentives and equity arrangements.
  • \n
  • Advising on property transactions and business investment decisions.
  • \n
  • Reviewing commercial arrangements to identify tax risks and planning opportunities.
  • \n
  • Preparing clear written advice, reports and supporting technical documentation.
  • \n
  • Liaising with HMRC and external legal or professional advisers where required.
  • \n
  • Working closely with colleagues across corporate tax, personal tax, accounts, audit and corporate finance.
  • \n
  • Identifying opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients.
  • \n
  • Supporting, coaching and reviewing the work of more junior tax colleagues.
  • \n
  • Contributing to the continued development and growth of the firm’s advisory offering.
  • \n
\n

The exact balance of corporate, personal and transaction-related advisory work can be tailored around the successful candidate’s technical background and areas of interest.

Experience and qualifications\n

The successful candidate will ideally have:

\n
    \n
  • Strong tax experience gained within an accountancy practice, legal firm or specialist tax consultancy.
  • \n
  • Experience advising owner-managed businesses, shareholders or private clients.
  • \n
  • Exposure to tax planning projects beyond routine compliance work.
  • \n
  • Strong technical knowledge across one or more areas of UK corporate or personal taxation.
  • \n
  • The ability to interpret tax legislation and communicate its practical implications clearly.
  • \n
  • Confidence managing projects and communicating directly with clients.
  • \n
  • Strong written skills and experience preparing clear technical advice.
  • \n
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to identify risks and planning opportunities.
  • \n
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously.
  • \n
  • Experience supporting or developing junior colleagues.
  • \n
\n

A professional qualification such as CTA, ACA or ACCA would be advantageous.

\n

Applications may also be considered from candidates who are qualified by experience and can demonstrate strong, relevant tax advisory expertise.

Benefits\n

Salary of £50,000–£80,000, depending on experience.

\n

Flexible and hybrid working.

\n

A role that can be shaped around your existing expertise and career ambitions.

\n

Genuine exposure to varied and technically interesting advisory work.

\n

Direct contact with Partners, business owners and senior client stakeholders.

\n

Opportunity to develop a specialism within the wider tax team.

\n

Clear scope for progression and increased responsibility.

\n

Supportive and accessible senior leadership.

\n

Ongoing technical training and professional development.

\n

A stable, successful and highly regarded independent practice.

\n

Greater autonomy than may be available within a larger national firm.

Company culture\n

The firm combines high technical standards with the personal, collaborative culture of a successful independent practice.

\n

Employees are trusted to manage their work, build meaningful client relationships and contribute ideas to the continued development of the business. Partners and senior colleagues remain accessible, giving people the opportunity to learn directly from experienced advisers while developing their own profile and areas of expertise.

\n

The practice values commercial thinking, clear communication and practical advice rather than overly theoretical solutions. Its independence allows decisions to be made locally and provides employees with the autonomy to shape their careers.

\n

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious tax professional who wants high-quality advisory work, genuine client responsibility and a clear long-term future without needing to join a large national firm.
