Job Description
Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting elementary students in a dynamic K-4 special education environment. This full-time assignment runs from late August to mid-June, with responsibilities spanning resource room instruction and in-class support for a diverse group of 8-12 students. This role blends academic guidance with vital social and emotional support, making a difference every day.
Candidates who bring specialized training in Orton-Gillingham methodologies—such as SLANT, Wilson, or Sonday—will find their skills especially valued, though all qualified educators with a passion for special education are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
- Valid Professional Educator License (PEL) in Special Education, or the ability to obtain Illinois licensure through the ISBE Educator Licensure Information System (ELIS) if currently licensed out-of-state
- Proven experience instructing elementary students in special education (resource/push-in models preferred)
- Orton-Gillingham-based program certification or training (SLANT, Wilson, Sonday, etc.) strongly preferred
- Strong communication skills and collaborative approach with general education staff
- Commitment to fostering both academic growth and emotional well-being
Responsibilities:
- Deliver pull-out resource instruction and push-in support within general education classrooms
- Develop and implement IEPs, accommodating both academic and social-emotional needs
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families
- Track and report student progress, adjusting interventions as appropriate
- Maintain a supportive, inclusive environment for all learners
