Our organization is in search of a Board Eligible or Board Certified General Surgeon with a focus on Surgical Critical Care to become a part of our Trauma/EGS team. This role offers a chance to engage in acute care surgery within a significant regional program, where the in-house trauma/EGS surgeon plays a pivotal clinical leadership role.
UPMC Altoona is a crucial community hospital that treats over 1,200 trauma patients and conducts more than 800 Emergency General Surgical procedures each year. We handle trauma and urgent surgical emergencies, including biliary diseases, bowel obstructions, diverticulitis, appendicitis (ages 12 and up), soft tissue infections, and various other urgent general surgical issues.
As a member of our team, you will be an essential resource for the Emergency Department, medical staff, EMS, hospital leadership, and the broader community. You will collaborate with a close-knit group of skilled trauma, surgical critical care, and EGS physicians, supported by an experienced Trauma Medical Director, a dedicated Trauma Program Manager, a proactive PI and registry team, an outreach coordinator, and seasoned trauma APPs, along with the administrative team.
We provide 24/7 in-house trauma/EGS coverage with backup call. Most trauma patients are admitted directly, and those needing Level I resources are quickly stabilized and transferred to a quaternary trauma center, with on-site aeromedical transport available. Our strong partnerships with regional EMS ensure we serve as a referral center for EGS transfers from nearby hospitals.
