Job SummaryThe role involves conducting diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies.
Key Responsibilities-
Ultrasound Procedures: Execute ultrasound examinations following established departmental protocols (60-75% of time)
- Conduct exams and clearly explain procedures to patients and their families to ensure understanding and consent.
- Evaluate the patient's medical, cardiac, or vascular status by taking a history prior to the exam.
- Compile patient information and input data into the PACS System or Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
- Archive all imaging studies for review by the Medical Director or designated personnel.

Billing: Ensure accurate and timely billing procedures (5% of time)
- Enter charges daily for procedures with minimal errors.
- Generate reports from PAC, Epic, and On Demand, verifying account numbers and procedure charges.

Department Support: Contribute to departmental goals and new program development (5% of time)
- Engage in the creation of new diagnostic testing procedures and evaluate potential equipment purchases.
- Educate residents and staff on technical aspects and limitations.
- Participate in professional development through educational programs and workshops.
- Contribute to research studies requiring departmental services.

Safety and Infection Control: Adhere to safety protocols (3-5% of time)
- Follow universal precautions and dispose of hazardous waste according to guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients and staff.
- Complete all mandatory annual training requirements.

Customer Service: Deliver high-quality care with respect and courtesy (2-5% of time)
- Exhibit care and courtesy to all patients and staff.
- Communicate effectively while maintaining confidentiality.
- Minimize overtime by efficiently scheduling patient procedures.

Performance Improvement: Integrate quality assessment into daily tasks (2-3% of time)
- Assist in collecting data for the department’s Performance Improvement Program.
- Recommend changes to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.

Age-Appropriate Care: Provide care suitable for various age groups (1% of time)
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development for all patient ages.
- Involve family members in care decisions.

Specialized Care: Offer specialized care for high-risk patients
- Monitor and assess patients under restraint, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Follow pain management protocols and report concerns to nursing staff.
- Recognize and report signs of abuse or neglect.

Department Operations: Assist in daily departmental functions (1-3% of time)
- Utilize work order systems for maintenance and housekeeping needs.
- Support clerical duties as needed.
- Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited AS program in Medical Sonography or scheduled to graduate from an approved BS program with RDMS(AS) certification.
- Minimum Experience: 2-5 years in abdominal, musculoskeletal, breast, and obstetrics/gynecology preferred.
- Required Certifications: BLS upon hire, RDMS(AB) within 12 months of hire, and one additional certification.
- Administrative: Compile statistics, manage paperwork for Medical Records, and handle phone communications professionally.
- Technical: Operate various ultrasound and Doppler equipment, manage EMR systems, and utilize standard office equipment.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases and bloodborne pathogens.
- Regular interaction with hazardous materials and electrical hazards.
- May require handling emergency situations and working irregular hours.
- Eye protection, gowns, lab coats, masks, and medical gloves.
- Ability to lift and transfer patients, sometimes exceeding 350 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, and manual dexterity required.
- Ability to adjust vision for varying light conditions and distinguish subtle shades.
- Ability to identify varying tones and pitches of audible signals.
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with Abdomen (AB) Specialty
- Additional RDMS specialties or Registered Musculoskeletal Sonographer (RMSKS) or Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) may be required.
