Our organization is in search of a medical oncologist to provide locum tenens coverage in California. Below are the specifics of the position:

  • Certification Requirements: Must hold board certification in medical oncology and possess BLS certification.
  • Experience Requirements: Completion of a fellowship in medical oncology is necessary.
  • License Requirements: An active California medical license is required; must be a Medicaid Eligible Provider and possess a DEA registration.
  • Work Environment: The position is based in an outpatient clinic.
  • Schedule: Targeting sixteen days per month with some flexibility; hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Start Date: Position available to begin as soon as possible.
  • Support Staff: You will be supported by a scheduler, clinical supervisor, medical assistant, nurse navigator, social worker, triage RN, and infusion RNs.
  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of patient medical histories, symptoms, and risk factors associated with blood disorders and cancers.
    • Order and interpret a variety of diagnostic tests, including blood work (Complete Blood Count, blood smears, genetic testing), bone marrow biopsies, imaging studies (CT scans, MRIs, PET scans), and lumbar punctures.
    • Analyze biopsy results and collaborate with pathologists to ascertain the type, stage, and extent of the disease.
    • Formulate and communicate diagnoses to patients and their families, detailing the type and stage of the blood cancer or disorder.
    • Prescribe various chemotherapy and immunotherapy treatments, utilizing resources such as NCCN, UpToDate, and Micromedex to support medical necessity.
  • Electronic Medical Records: Familiarity with OncoEMR and Cerner is preferred.
  • On-Call Duties: Participation in on-call duties is required.
