Outreach Development Tutor (Youth Worker / Behaviour Mentor)

Location: CroydonHours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Do you have experience working with young people and a passion for helping them succeed?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, resilient and compassionate Outreach Development Tutor to join a specialist educational setting supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role would particularly suit candidates with experience as a Youth Worker, Behaviour Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Sports Coach, Family Support Worker, Community Worker, or similar role working with vulnerable young people.

Building positive relationships is at the heart of this position. We are looking for someone who can engage with students, gain their trust, understand their challenges and act as a positive role model to help them achieve their potential.

The Role

As an Outreach Development Tutor, you will play a key role in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide mentoring, behavioural support and personal development opportunities that help students re-engage with education and make positive progress.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing mentoring, guidance and pastoral support.

• Supporting students' academic, social and emotional development.
\n
• Promoting positive behaviour and engagement in learning.
\n
• Delivering enrichment, wellbeing and personal development activities.
\n
• Supporting students with SEMH and additional needs.
\n
• Encouraging attendance, participation and achievement.
\n
• Working collaboratively with families, external agencies and professionals.
\n
• Supporting educational visits, enrichment opportunities and community-based activities.
\n
• Acting as a positive role model and advocate for young people.
\n

About You

• Have experience working with young people in a youth work, education, mentoring, coaching or support-based environment.
\n
• Can quickly build rapport and connect with students from a variety of backgrounds.
\n
• Understand the challenges faced by vulnerable or disengaged young people.
\n
• Are confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and professional manner.
\n
• Have strong communication and relationship-building skills.
\n
• Are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers and succeed.
\n
• Can work effectively as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
\n
• Are proactive, adaptable and resilient.
\n

Experience working with students with SEMH needs, SEND, challenging behaviour or those at risk of exclusion would be particularly advantageous.
