  • \n
\n

Not every Financial Controller role is about keeping the numbers in order.

\n

Some genuinely give you the opportunity to influence the direction of a business.

\n

This is one of them.

\n

We're working with a market leading distributor that has built an excellent reputation within its sector. They're now looking for a commercially minded Financial Controller to work alongside the senior leadership team, helping shape business decisions while leading an established finance function.

\n

This isn't a role where you'll be hidden away in the finance office.

\n

You'll work closely with stakeholders across the business, build strong relationships with customers and suppliers, and become a trusted part of the leadership team.

\n

You'll also oversee IT alongside finance, making this a varied role with real influence.

\n

Importantly, this position has a clear succession plan, with the opportunity to progress into a Finance Director role within the next 12 months.

\n

What will you be doing?

\n
    \n
  • Leading and developing an experienced, hands-on finance team that's genuinely keen to learn and improve.
  • \n
  • Producing monthly management accounts
  • \n
  • Budgeting and forecasting
  • \n
  • Managing VAT, compliance and statutory reporting.
  • \n
  • Overseeing foreign currency transactions with overseas suppliers.
  • \n
  • Supporting company secretarial duties, ensuring governance and statutory requirements are maintained.
  • \n
  • Managing customer and supplier relationships,
  • \n
  • Supporting commercial decision-making through insightful financial analysis.
  • \n
  • Taking ownership of finance systems, IT and process improvements as the business continues to evolve.
  • \n
  • Partnering with senior stakeholders across the business to help drive future growth.
  • \n
\n

What are we looking for?

\n

You'll already be operating as a Financial Controller, or in a similar senior finance position, and enjoy being involved in the day-to-day running of a business rather than sitting on the sidelines.

\n

Whether you're a fully qualified accountant or qualified by experience (QBE), we're far more interested in what you've done than the letters after your name.

\n

For this business, it's all about finding someone with the right experience, commercial mindset and personality to fit the team.

\n

Ideally, you'll also have:

\n
    \n
  • Experience leading and developing a finance team.
  • \n
  • A commercial approach and the confidence to influence senior stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Strong management accounting, budgeting and financial reporting experience.
  • \n
  • Knowledge of VAT and financial compliance.
  • \n
  • Experience of FX transactions (desirable but not essential).
  • \n
  • Experience using Sage.
  • \n
  • ERP system experience would be beneficial.
  • \n
  • A proactive, sleeves-rolled-up attitude with a genuine desire to improve processes and support the wider business.
  • \n
\n

The role is office based, but that's because the business genuinely values collaboration, and it's reflected in the culture they've built.

\n

You'll be joining a close-knit team who enjoy working together, support one another and are all invested in the success of the business.

\n

If you're looking for a role where you can genuinely influence a business and see a clear route to Finance Director, please reach out to Emma Dugdale or Lucy Regan for a confidential conversation.
