Payroll Officer | Remote | Part-Time 25 Hours Per Week | Up to £22,000 per annumOur client was established in 2017 and continues to build on its reputation for providing excellent advice and first-class service to business and personal clients. They support businesses of all sizes across the Midlands, working with clients across sectors including agriculture, service, construction, manufacturing and retail.They are seeking a Payroll Officer to manage a portfolio of client payrolls using Sage 50c Payroll Bureau and Modulr Salary Payments, ensuring accuracy, compliance with HMRC legislation, pension regulations and company procedures.The RoleThis is a remote working role that would suit someone looking for flexibility and who is confident managing a portfolio of clients independently. The Payroll Officer will be responsible for managing approximately 63 payrolls and 30 annual payrolls, with client sizes ranging from one director-only payroll through to businesses with 360 employees.The Payroll Officer will be expected to work independently, demonstrating excellent attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to identify and resolve payroll issues before work is submitted for review.Key ResponsibilitiesProcess weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly, monthly and annual payrolls where requiredSet up new payroll clients and process new starters and leaversCalculate salary changes, overtime, bonuses and commissionProcess statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP and ShPPProcess salary sacrifice arrangements, pension enrolment, postponement and re-enrolmentUpload pension contribution filesProcess Attachment of Earnings Orders, student loan deductions, company sick pay and contractual paymentsPrepare and submit HMRC FPS and EPS returnsProduce payroll reports and process salary payments using Sage Salary Payments (Modulr)Maintain accurate payroll records and respond professionally to client payroll queriesEnsure payrolls are processed within agreed deadlinesReview payroll calculations, sense-check outputs and investigate unusual resultsVerify information against client instructions and source documentationFollow documented payroll procedures and maintain complete audit trailsEscalate unusual or complex issues promptlyRecord errors and corrective actions where requiredContribute to continuous improvement of payroll processesSupport client onboarding where requiredRequirementsEssentialExcellent payroll experience, ideally within a payroll bureau environmentExperience using Sage 50c Payroll BureauGood knowledge of HMRC payroll legislationExperience processing workplace pensions, salary sacrifice arrangements, statutory payments and Attachments of EarningsStrong understanding of managing a portfolio of varying payroll clientsExcellent attention to detail and accuracyStrong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workloadsAbility to work independently with sound payroll judgementGood written and verbal communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Microsoft Office 365DesirableExperience using Xero PayrollExperience using Modulr Salary PaymentsExperience supporting new client onboardingCIPP qualification or equivalent payroll qualificationExperience working towards payroll quality standards, such as CIPP Payroll Assurance Scheme (PAS)Experience working within documented quality systems or payroll proceduresWhats In It For YouPart-time role 20-25 hours per week, averaged over the monthFlexible working patternRemote working5.6 weeks holiday pro rataAnnual bonusNest PensionPrivate medical insuranceTraining on company payroll procedures and client-specific payroll requirementsTraining on Sage Salary Payments (Modulr), internal quality management procedures and client portal systemsOpportunity for career progression as the business continues to growWhats next?
