Job Description
\nThe Senior Control & Protection System Application Engineer is responsible for the requirement definition, design, studies, validation, and commissioning of Control & Protection Systems for VSC-based HVDC transmission schemes, including MMC converter technology. This position requires deep expertise in HVDC Control & Protection, strong technical leadership, and the ability to drive reference solutions, process improvements, and consistent technical quality across multi-disciplinary, international engineering teams.\n

Roles and Responsibilities
\n1. Technical Leadership & Oversight
\nOversee the overall technical solution, ensuring customer requirements are met based on reference solutions.
\nLead requirements gathering, system design, implementation, and development of HVDC Control & Protection systems.
\nReview and approve technical documents, including control/protection settings, manuals, test plans, and test procedures.
\nServe as the primary customer interface for technical discussions, training, and requirement clarification.
2. Control System & Protection Design\nDefine control philosophies, protection and interlocking logics, and data exchange configurations.
\nLead and participate in engineering design processes, including design reviews and approval cycles.
\nEnsure that all design outputs comply with industry standards, system requirements, and quality procedures.
\n3.Advanced Modelling & Simulation
\nConduct Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, and model control/protection functions in MATLAB/Simulink.
\nPerform network conversion, modelling, tuning, and verification using PSSE, PSCAD, and RSCAD.
\nDevelop full plant/system models and lead end-to-end validation across multiple simulation platforms.
\nLead Control System Studies & Testing, including:
\noSoftware-in-the-Loop (SIL)
\noDynamic performance studies
\noProtection coordination
\noOverall system integration
\n4. System Testing & Commissioning
\nConduct Integration System Test (IST), Functional System Test (FST), Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and system commissioning at customer sites.
\nLead root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex VSC control and protection issues.
\n5.Team Development & Mentorship
\nProvide technical guidance, mentorship, and knowledge transfer to junior engineers.
\nSupport managers in building high-performing, resilient teams.
\nRecruit, develop, and mentor engineering talent to enhance organizational capability.
\n6.Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
\nIdentify and implement improvements in engineering tools, processes, systems, and technical solutions to enhance customer value and operational efficiency.
\nMake informed decisions regarding work processes, schedules, priorities, and operational plans to achieve departmental objectives.
\nUphold and promote SQDC principles across teams.
\nRequired Qualifications
\nEducation: Degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering or equivalent proven experience in HVDC systems.
\nExperience: Minimum 12 years in HVDC control and protection system design.
\nTechnical Expertise:
\nHVDC Control, Protection, and Sequencing strategies.
\nDynamic performance studies and system modelling for VSC-HVDC schemes.
\nProficiency in PSCAD and MATLAB/Simulink.
\nLeadership & Communication:
\nStrong technical leadership experience.
\nAbility to understand and communicate customer requirements effectively.
\nOwnership of technical discussions and ability to develop strong client relationships.
\nCross-Functional Collaboration:
\nActive participation in cross-functional leadership teams.
\nMakes independent decisions while engaging subject-matter experts as needed.
