Take on a meaningful contract opportunity supporting a high school student with sign language interpreting needs in Northern Virginia. This full-time position involves working on-site at an alternative education campus, dedicated to providing one-on-one American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting. Your expertise in ASL will help empower a 15-year-old student by facilitating communication and access to learning in an inclusive environment.

Key Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language with strong interpersonal skills
  • Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school settings
  • Must be eligible for or hold either VQAS Level III or a minimum EIPA score of 3.5 (final requirement will be specified)
  • Willingness to begin the Virginia Department of Social Services background check as soon as possible
  • Ability to provide proof of a recent TB test, as required by Virginia state guidelines

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver one-on-one ASL interpreting services for a high school-aged student with unique learning needs
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and family members to ensure consistent communication support
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of interpreting services
  • Foster a supportive atmosphere that encourages student engagement and independence
  • Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality in all circumstances

This contract spans the current school year, starting immediately and continuing through late May, offering 37.5 hours per week on-site. The role is based in a friendly educational community dedicated to meeting every student’s potential.
