Job Description
Take on a meaningful contract opportunity supporting a high school student with sign language interpreting needs in Northern Virginia. This full-time position involves working on-site at an alternative education campus, dedicated to providing one-on-one American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting. Your expertise in ASL will help empower a 15-year-old student by facilitating communication and access to learning in an inclusive environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with strong interpersonal skills
- Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in school settings
- Must be eligible for or hold either VQAS Level III or a minimum EIPA score of 3.5 (final requirement will be specified)
- Willingness to begin the Virginia Department of Social Services background check as soon as possible
- Ability to provide proof of a recent TB test, as required by Virginia state guidelines
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver one-on-one ASL interpreting services for a high school-aged student with unique learning needs
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and family members to ensure consistent communication support
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interpreting services
- Foster a supportive atmosphere that encourages student engagement and independence
- Adhere to ethical standards and confidentiality in all circumstances
This contract spans the current school year, starting immediately and continuing through late May, offering 37.5 hours per week on-site. The role is based in a friendly educational community dedicated to meeting every student’s potential.
