The Associate Medical Director (AMD) plays a vital role as a clinical leader within our primary care team, merging clinical practice with leadership and operational oversight to guarantee exceptional patient care while adhering to Value-Based Care (VBC) principles. This position is tailored to specific markets or centers, requiring adaptability in responsibilities and a unique combination of clinical management, financial insight, and strategic collaboration to enhance both patient care and business results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Organizational Management:
    • Analyze organizational and market priorities, trends, and objectives to formulate a clinical strategy that enhances talent and performance.
    • Recruit, hire, and oversee clinical teams to cultivate a high-quality workforce that embodies a patient-first culture and promotes talent retention.
    • Engage with clinicians and care teams through weekly onsite visits, regular one-on-one meetings, and active participation in monthly leadership discussions.
    • Support and enhance primary care clinician performance by understanding individual and team contexts, utilizing data effectively, and providing impactful coaching.
    • Participate in regular market performance meetings focusing on clinical, financial, and operational topics such as Medical Risk Adjustment (MRA), budgeting, staffing, and clinical initiatives.
    • Advocate for our senior-focused primary care vision and initiatives, building relationships with stakeholders including health plan partners, healthcare providers, and social services to enhance community care.
    • Represent our organization in local communities and media engagements while collaborating with recruitment to establish a network of high-quality primary care clinicians.
    • Leverage clinical performance dashboards and data tools for performance analysis and strategic development.
    • Encourage a culture of continuous learning and professional development among clinical teams.
  • Clinical/Patient Management:
    • Promote a strong patient-centered and value-based clinical vision that aligns care teams with excellence in patient care and outcomes.
    • Achieve outstanding clinical performance in patient experience, quality of care, clinical outcomes, and reduction of avoidable utilization.
    • Regularly review clinician charts to identify care improvement opportunities, ensuring accurate clinical assessments and targeted coaching initiatives.
    • Identify critical issues for high-risk patients during case reviews and drive clinical excellence.
    • Conduct root cause analyses of care opportunities from individual, team, and systemic perspectives, collaborating with clinical and operational colleagues to enhance care reliability.
    • Ensure effective co-management of high-risk patients with the Care Integration Team (CIT) resources for transitions of care management and social determinants of health initiatives.
    • Oversee daily patient care and initiatives aimed at improving team-based key performance indicators (KPIs), such as patient experience and Medicare clinical quality metrics.
    • Deliver high-quality primary care, demonstrating ownership and excellence in age-friendly senior primary care, including health promotion, disease management, and complex care management.
    • Allocate 20–50% of time to direct patient care, with the remainder dedicated to administrative tasks, adjusting based on market needs and staffing levels.
    • Support clinical quality improvement in areas such as MRA, Stars, and prevention of unnecessary utilization through provider education and coaching.
    • Encourage team-based care delivery and collaboration across interdisciplinary teams.
  • Dyad Partnership:
    • Work closely with operational leaders and Shared Services partners to align clinical and operational objectives, strategic planning, and budgeting.
    • Maintain ongoing communication to ensure alignment on performance, strategies, and team management, fostering unified decision-making and consistent messaging.
    • Collaborate towards shared goals that enhance the mission, vision, values, and overall patient experience, managing clinic dynamics and engagement.
    • Partner on strategic insights, including budgeting, while monitoring clinical and financial performance metrics.
    • Review clinician schedules and incentive plans to ensure alignment with patient care access and management objectives.
Make a Difference with Your SkillsRequired Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited medical school (MD/DO) with a valid medical license, adhering to state licensure requirements.
  • Board Certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatric Medicine.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in outpatient practice, with a focus on primary care, senior health, and value-based care.
  • At least three years of successful leadership experience with clinicians, demonstrating a positive impact on talent, culture, and performance, alongside effective collaboration with operational teams.
  • Proficiency in clinical technology platforms, including EMR systems and clinical evidence resources.
  • This position involves patient interaction and is part of the Tuberculosis (TB) screening program; selected candidates will need to undergo TB screening.
  • Compliance with the organization's flu vaccine policy is required for selected candidates.

Compensation Range

The salary range provided reflects a good faith estimate of the starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. Actual pay may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications, including skills, experience, education, and certifications.

$310,000 - $368,500 per year

This position is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on individual and/or company performance.
