Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as an Academic Life Skills LBS1 Special Education Teacher supporting students with diverse abilities in a welcoming elementary school environment near Bensenville, IL. In this full-time role, you'll play a pivotal part in cultivating academic growth and essential life skills for a small classroom of 7–9 students, each presenting unique strengths and support needs, including those with autism, Down syndrome, and various medical considerations.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or closely related field
  • Prior experience supporting students with autism, Down syndrome, or complex medical needs is highly valued
  • Proven skills in behavior management, differentiated instruction, and effective team collaboration
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on building positive family relationships

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging instruction and support daily living in a structured self-contained Academic Life Skills classroom
  • Design, implement, and adapt individualized educational plans and life skills curricula aligned to IEP goals
  • Lead and mentor classroom support staff, ensuring coordinated care and instruction
  • Collaborate with related service providers, nursing teams, and administrators to deliver comprehensive student support
  • Monitor, record, and communicate student progress while maintaining IEP documentation
  • Foster family engagement through regular, constructive communication and team meeting facilitation
