The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly. - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA) \n
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) \n
- Certified Medical Assistant – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) \n
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) \n
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Allied Health (AAH) \n
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT) \n
- Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) \n

- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within 30 days of hire \n

- High School Diploma or GED \n
- \n
- Rooming patients, including:\n
- \n
- Collecting pertinent information related to chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, and medication reconciliation \n
\n - Telephone interactions, including:\n
- \n
- Communicating with patients, families, pharmacies, and other healthcare facilities \n
- Gathering and maintaining patient information per department policies and workflows \n
\n - Administrative support, including but not limited to:\n
- \n
- Patient check-in and check-out \n
- Scheduling appointments \n
- Prior authorizations \n
- Benefits verification \n
- Coordination of referrals and diagnostic testing \n
\n - Clinical and office procedures, as directed and per department competencies, including:\n
- \n
- Urine catheterizations and bladder scanning \n
- Suture and staple removal \n
- Application and removal of casts (per provider direction) \n
- Point-of-care diagnostic testing \n
- Reading negative TB skin tests and escalating potential positive results to nursing staff \n
\n - Patient education, including:\n
- \n
- Providing written instructions related to procedures, medications, and follow-up care \n
- Retrieving condition-specific education materials per provider orders \n
\n - Medication support, including:\n
- \n
- Administering medications and injections per provider orders \n
- Assisting with prescription refills, calling medications into pharmacies, notifying patients, and documenting actions in the EMR \n
\n - Clinical support and competencies, including:\n
- \n
- Taking and documenting vital signs \n
- Medication reconciliation \n
- Processing lab specimens and point-of-care testing \n
- Stocking exam rooms and maintaining equipment \n
- Chaperoning providers during exams and procedures \n
- Maintaining department-specific competencies and specialty training \n
