Make a significant impact by supporting a high school student with visual impairment in a fulfilling, contract-based role near Tehachapi, CA. This opportunity is tailored for professionals passionate about making braille accessible—whether you're experienced as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, Braillist, Paraprofessional, or a Speech-Language Interpreter (SLI) skilled in teaching braille.

In this position, you'll work one-on-one with a bright student who is developing both foundational and functional braille literacy skills. This student has low cognition and will greatly benefit from individualized, attentive instruction throughout the school year.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Proficiency in braille required; ability to teach braille to beginning learners
  • Experience supporting students with visual impairments, especially at the high school level
  • Background as a Braillist, TVI (Teacher for the Visually Impaired), Paraprofessional, or SLI who can instruct braille
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and adaptability
  • Ability to collaborate with educational teams and families
  • Commitment to fostering independence and academic progress

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one instruction in braille to a high school student with low cognition
  • Develop and adapt braille materials to meet the student’s evolving needs
  • Track student progress and actively collaborate with other professionals involved in the student’s education
  • Help integrate braille into daily academic and life skills activities
  • Support a positive, trusting learning environment that encourages growth and self-confidence

This contract runs from August 13, 2026, to June 11, 2027, for 30 hours each week during the 26/27 school year.
