Step into a rewarding contract role supporting students who are deaf or hard of hearing in a dynamic elementary school environment. This position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact by providing specialized instruction to first and second-grade students and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary educational team.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (EC-12) certification, or the ability to obtain certification/permit before your start date
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and/or listening and spoken language methodologies, relevant to assigned caseload
- Strong knowledge of language acquisition and literacy development for deaf and hard of hearing children
- Successful experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
Preferred Background:
- Previous experience teaching in a self-contained classroom for deaf and hard of hearing students
- Background in early elementary literacy instruction
- Familiarity with Regional Day School Programs for the Deaf (RDSPD) structures, compliance, and procedures
- Bilingualism in English and Spanish is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction in reading, writing, math, and core subjects, adapting content to meet each student’s needs
- Utilize communicative modalities specified in IEPs (e.g., ASL, spoken language, total communication)
- Collaborate with service providers, families, and general education staff to ensure comprehensive student support
- Assess and monitor student progress, maintaining detailed documentation and preparing progress reports each grading period
- Ensure effective use of classroom technology to support language access and learning
- Maintain compliance with IDEA, state, and district policies
- Participate actively in ARD/IEP meetings, staff development, and required training sessions
